In its first year of operation, the schools’ fleet of cars doubled with R32 and R33 skylines added to the line up.
As drifting was a relatively new concept in Australia and had not yet reached mainstream, Project D experienced a lot of media attention during this time.
This included: • a feature on Getaway with presenter Jules (Jules Lund) • a day teaching daredevil freestyle motorcyclists, Crusty Demons • a segment on The Footy Show (in conjunction with Autosalon and Xbox) taking Sonny Bill Williams for a spin in Project D drift cars to promote Xbox’s new game Forza and much more.
Unfortunately it came time for Oran Park Raceway to close down in 2009. Project D Drift School was then relocated to WSID (Western Sydney International Dragway). The school ran the same single product but added a shorter night version due to popular demand. At this time, another R32 RB25 power Skyline was added to the fleet.
The school was welcomed that SMSP (Sydney Motor Sport Park) in late 2013 with new naming right sponsor Hi-Tec Oils. The school was renamed Hi-Tec Drift School Sydney. An S13 and S15 Silvia’s we’re added to bring the fleet up to a total of 7. Several new products were also added including Drift Experience, Thrill Rides and Half Day school. Hi-Tec Drift School enjoyed its time at SMSP up until the end of 2014.
Due to limited dates available we have now gone full circle and operate out of Sydney Dragway once again.
Sydney Dragway lends itself to more flexible layouts and greater amounts of available dates for our customers to choose from. We have added another 180sx and S14 Silvia’s to the fleet and have 3 more cars in the build. With plans in play to expand interstate we have renamed to Drift School Australia to better reflect our brand.
Now in 2016 Drift School Australia has; developed a range of products to suit all budgets and preferences; an extensive range of weekend dates for students to choose from; a fleet of 12 cars and a team of seasoned instructors led by professional drifter Fernando Wiehrl.
We hope to see you at the track ready to go sideways!
